First step of the official protection of the Albanian tulip (Tulipa albanica) has been approved! The advocacy of the Institute for Environmental Policy through the project “Conservation and propagation of the Albanian tulip” financed by CEPF, convinced the Municipal Council of Kukës Municipality to approve the formal protection of the Albanian Tulip habitat on 22.04.2020. This became official when the Prefect of Kukës Prefecture approved the decision on 30.04.2020 and it was published on 4.05.2020. The Municipality of Kukës and its environmental specialist played and important role in this process. This open the way to include the area in the national protected area and seek higher protection from the Government of Albania, under the National Agency for Protected Areas.
